About Justin Short

Built by the Northland.
Focused on Its Future.

Being born and raised in the Second District of the Northland, Justin is uniquely qualified to represent the Northland and its ever-growing population. He comes from a background of service. His parents were involved in local politics and nonprofit work for over two decades, making service a core part of who he is. Justin attended English Landing Elementary, Lakeview Middle School, and Park Hill South High School.

Justin earned the rank of Eagle Scout through Platte Woods United Methodist Church in 2003. At Park Hill South, he was involved in orchestra, choir, spirit squad, and other clubs and organizations.

Justin attended the University of Missouri, where he was a cheerleader from 2006 to 2011. He graduated with a degree in Business and Hospitality Management and a minor in Mass Communication.

After college, Justin worked for several cruise lines, eventually becoming a cruise director and traveling the world. Justin served as the 4th District Representative for the Kansas City LGBTQ Commission (mayoral appointment). He also served on the Downtown Neighborhood Association as Policy Chair. Justin is active with the Kansas City Regional Transit Alliance and serves on the Apartment Association of Kansas City Advocacy Committee. In his professional life, Justin works in property management for Cordish Companies. He has previously managed 909 Walnut Apartments and holds Leasing Professional of the Year awards for 2021, 2024, and 2025. Justin ran for City Council in the 2023 council elections and jokingly says he came in second place out of five.

Justin has stayed involved in the workings of City Hall and the progress of the city. Justin has committed to being a full-time City Council representative, making him available to you and your ideas for the future of the Northland. Justin's full focus will be on serving as your Northland voice within City Hall.
